Nepali workers suffer due to cultural‚ tropical gaps in Gulf: Envoy

Ambassador of Nepal to Saudi Arabia Udaya Raj Pandey said most problems confronted by Nepali migrant workers are due to differences in culture, living and tropical weather in the Gulf.

Addressing an interaction programme with the representatives of organisations involved in foreign employment business in Saudi Arabia on Friday, Ambassador Pandey also held responsible the outsourcing companies for the negligence of the woes that Nepali workers have being facing.

“Gaps relating to culture and religion, way of living and tropical are the main reason behind most of the woes of Nepali workers in the Gulf,” he added. “Also negligence of outsourcing agencies could not ignore the woes of workers.”

The ambassador urged the concerned outsourcing agencies to mend their ways so as to reduce the workers’ problems. Many outsource agencies have been found involved in sending unqualified workers for money.

The outsource agencies have also been found in giving false promises to the undeserved works and salaries to the emigrating workers despite their lack of qualification.

“Such activities ultimately lead the workers to their unfavourable situation in alien land,” Ambassador Pandey was quoted in a statement issued by Saudi Embassy of Nepal.

He appealed to the workers supply agencies to train basic things about the Saudi culture, way of living, tropical situation and most importantly the works they are going to do in the Gulf before their departure.

Despite the limitations of human resources and financial condition, the embassy has been doing its best to provide all available support to the needy workers, informed the envoy.
