The Nepali Embassy in Dhaka has issued an advisory for Nepalis staying in Bangladesh regarding their safety amid the ongoing unrest there.

The Embassy released a notice on Monday requesting all Nepali nationals staying in Bangladesh to stay safe and secure in their current locations and take help from the embassy if they need repatriation.

According to the embassy, currently, there are around 400 Nepalis in Bangladesh as most of the Nepalis there have already returned home earlier.

“Given the resurgence of violent protests related to the ongoing quota issue and enforcement of an indefinite curfew by the Bangladeshi government, all Nepalis in Bangladesh are advised to remain safe in their current locations and exercise maximum caution,” the advisory said.

The embassy stated that it is in constant contact with the Nepalis there.

The advisory also requested those wishing to return to Nepal to coordinate with the embassy and travel only after ensuring adequate security arrangements.

The embassy’s notice came at a time when Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday and fled the country as more people were killed in some of the worst violence since the birth of the South Asian nation more than five decades ago.
