Rescue efforts for Nepali prisoners in jails in Baharaich of Uttar Pradesh, India, have been started, officials said today.
A team of human rights activists and social organisations in Nepalgunj would soon leave for India to discuss with the Indian officials.
Some 30 women of the 70 arrested in the Januhana point of Banke’s border and Murtiya of Bardia are still in Baharaich jail.
They were arrested while smuggling hashish from various districts of mid-western region.
According to advocate Keshav Koirala, it was not easy to release them as Indian laws are strict, but efforts are being made for the same. The team includes members from the INSEC, Him Rights and Maiti Nepal would go to India and rescue the women.
Advocate Koirala said the women were not able to pay for the services of a lawyer for lack of money and were living a troublesome life in the Indian jail in the allurement of a little amount of money.
